His decapitation took place in the square outside of the museum. Subsequently his body is reported to have been suspended from a Roman column amidst the ruins of the ancient city that he had spent his life working to study and restore.

At Glynhynod farm, near Llandysul (SA44 5JY) fine spirits are being distilled in wonderful stills that are in themselves works of art: Da Mihle Distillery. Maybe one of their award-winning products is just the right present for the person-you’ve-left-until-last, or indeed, for your own tray of special drinks. Just look at this beautiful orange liqueur.

Buy locally at one of the giftshops in Newcastle Emlyn or call in at the distillery itself. At the moment they have photographs by Peter Jackman exhibited in their gallery space, so there’s another good reason for calling by. And did I mention that Caws Teifi Cheese is next door?
